Saxon - Inspirations - [Vinyl]
British heavy metal legends Saxon release a brilliant cover album with the appropriate name Inspirations. Eleven brand new tracks that deliver superb rock classics that influenced Biff Byford & his band. From the melodic paperback writer from the Beatles to Jimi Hendrix Stone Free, Saxon show their love and appreciation with their tribute, which are sometimes rough but always loyal to the original song. Constant focus was on the idea of the old school in which they worked with Marshall Cabs, Marshall Amps and a real drums. The whole thing was produced by Biff Byford with Jacky Lehmann, who accompanied and mixed the recordings. The approach, for example, to Motrhead's bomber (with the whistle added) or AC/DC's problem Child, Black Sabbaths Evil Woman and the loud Speed King by Deep Purple was all played with refreshing warmth, unfiltered and with vintage sound reproduction. We wanted to record an album that showed our influence, the songs and bands that inspired us to write exactly the Saxon songs that we wrote and still write. It was interesting to learn what else my voice gives, as I've never sung some of these songs before, Biff adds. I'm sure Byford has taken on some new vocal challenges. Like how he properly kicked out Thin Lizzy's The Rocker. Another heavyweight is Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin and then again AC/DC's problem Child. Saxon does an incredibly good job here not only to entertain themselves, but also inspirational listeners.
