The story for MacDonald has been amazing, since his Mojo Top 10 Blues album of 2022 - Do Right Say Right, taking him from Bromley to Beale Street. London-based Bluesman Mississippi MacDonald has graduated from performing at a social club in Greenwich to Club 152 on Beale Street, Memphis. He took part in the International Blues Challenge in January 2023 and also jammed on stage in Austin and Seattle during the year. Releasing the second album by Mississippi MacDonald on APM Records, we have had great support from UK press and radio. Notably BBC Radio 2 Blues Show airplay and interview/session, and hitting #1 on the IBBA album chart (Feb.23) and #1 on Roots Music Report UK . Mississippi MacDonald is the front cover artist and main feature in Blues In Britain Magazine (Feb23). Outside the UK HSLB has achieved : Top 50 iTunes Blues album chart (US) / #3 Roots Music Report (Global)/ #1 Roots Music Report Blues song Blind Leading The Blind (Global) / Top 10 US Living Blues radio chart (US) / Top 20 US National College Radio (US) airplay on 50 stations (US) / airplay in Netherlands, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Croatia, France, Italy, Germany and Israel With Heavy State Loving Blues, MacDonald continues and amplifies his musical journey on ten more songs carved from the blues roots that he seems able to tap with amazing skill and emotional intensity. MacDonalds blues ring with authenticity ? a real achievement considering eight out of the ten are original songs. Hes a powerful, soulful vocalist, and his guitar work is stunningly simple, letting the music breathe in between the notes; a style he picked up from his greatest influences including Albert Collins (whom MacDonald pays tribute to on the final track Blues For Albert). Other notable originals include Howlin Wolf, a funky, high-energy shoutout to pretenders in the music world, heavily fuelled by some crackling horns. The title track is torchy and soulful, with MacDonalds guitar lines inspiring the vocals, Blind Leading the Blind is a gritty duet with legendary soul singer Vaneese Thomas and her gorgeous Memphis musical attitude. Heading South is more soulful pleading with MacDonalds stinging guitar in a powerful call-and-response conversation. On Ill Understand MacDonald starts to push the album deeper into the intensity of the blues. His voice aches for the hope of lost love returning, and a guitar solo midway echoes that beautiful pain with primal urgency. With another UK tour lined up for March-June, the word is out : Mississippi MacDonald is a compelling, engaging artist who is going to make a lot of new friends with this record. Make sure youre one of them (Rock and Blues Muse)
