Daytoner - Remote Connections - [Vinyl]
During Covid, Daytoner tried to atone for their cancelled live shows with a series of videos showcasing new song ideas, which the 6 band members individually created in isolation across Cornwall. These attracted the attention of the local press and were featured as one of the lockdown highlights, encouraging the sessions to continue behind the scenes, culminating in 12 tracks for their second band album,'Remote Connections' which, despite lengthy pandemic and vinyl pressing plant delays, will be finally released on limited edition vinyl, streaming and download stores on Friday May 27th 2022. The new LP moves Daytoner into richer ground, ranging from raucous funk for DJs through to reflective soul searching for listeners, all revolving around the grooves that have been conjured up collectively since their debut, 'Off The Hook' in 2018. Lucy's lyrics intertwine soulful tales of loss and loss in dark days, but there's also gratitude for life, connecting with what many sensed during the last 2 years. Indeed, it's clear, this album is a direct expression of the strange times we've all inhabited recently. The album builds on their previous releases with a new line-up creating a full funk sound, honed from performing at over 50 UK festivals and events since their inception 6 years ago. It features the combined talents of Lucy Richards vocals and lyrics, written to music written and produced by Moss Daytoner & Jamie Graham with sax from the 'man of many bands' Dan Hillman, ably assisted by the brass of Jack Fitt and David Lanni providing guitar layers throughout. The artwork and video features a graphic remake of Marconi's radio masts at Poldhu Cove at the turn of the 20th century, connecting this remote release to Cornwall's history of pioneering communications technology that began with the telegraph cables at Porthcurno and continued with the satellites dishes at Goonhilly through to the Spaceport of toda
